Fundraising to Help Find the Cure for Dementia

Theona and Pete Combos are committed to fundraising to rid the world of dementia.

They set up the Helen and Emanuel Poteris Award to honour two people, Theona’s parents, whose life together was cut short due to both Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

A relationship with NeuRA means the money raised each year provides a PhD student with financial support for their research expenses.

Theona and Pete hope this award will assist a researcher to build on their knowledge and finally put an end to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s all around the world, by discovering the cure in Australia.

Missing Mum - Always

Monday 30th Mar
I think about mum every day and miss her terribly.  My dad too.  Mum lost dad when she was only 56, and I often wonder if the grief brought on her dementia.  We'll never know.  Mum said the short 23 years married to dad were the best in her life.  She loved him so very much and it was so unfair Parkinson's took him away aged just 68.  I grieve for the life taken from her, and her from all of us, especially me.  Dementia is incredibly cruel and I promised mum to help find the cure, and I hope it is found in our lifetime.
