Run for Resilience

Monday 29th Jan
The RUN FOR RESILIENCE PROJECT (R4R) was created to highlight the importance of physical activity and community engagement for overall health and wellbeing. We have now partnered with A/Prof Justine Gatt's Centre for Wellbeing, Resilience and Recovery at NeuRA (https://neura.edu.au/research/research-expertise/centre-for-wellbeing-resilience-and-recovery) to help in creating ongoing evidence of the positive health outcomes.

WHAT IS THE PROGRAM ABOUT?

What: R4R is a 12 Week running & wellbeing program with the end goal to compete in a 10km event with the group.

Wellbeing research will be conducted and analysed throughout.

Who: R4R is aimed at new and beginner runners.

This program consists of 2 groups:

Social Running Group

  • Personalised 12 week run program.

  • Weekly group check-ins and running sessions (Eastern Suburbs)

  • Entry into the 10km run event (17th Sept)

  • Access & presentation from nutritionist

  • Access & presentation from psychologist

  • WhatsApp chat for the group

Standard Running Group:

  • 12 week run program

  • Entry into the 10km run event (17th September)

Exercise is shown to improve an individual's overall mental health and wellbeing as well as reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression.

The Run for Resilience Project aims to apply a holistic approach addressing social and emotional elements of community health outcomes and use running as the consistent variable. We want to highlight to our local community how this approach can create a positive impact and can develop healthy and sustainable habits to support overall mental health and wellbeing.

The pilot of Run for Resilience in 2023 was a huge success and we want to keep this momentum going. Please reach out if you would like to discuss further or look over the 2023 Final Report.

WHY DONATE?

Your donations will help support A/Prof Justine Gatt's research team in collecting data on the wellbeing outcomes throughout the running program in order to evaluate how effective exercise is in promoting our mental health and wellbeing.
